Her Name is Jyoti Singh Pandey

Grieving Father Wants The World to Know Her Name

Her name is Jyoti Singh Pandey.  She was a beautiful young woman who had a wonderful life to look forward to with bright future ahead of her, that is until she was tragically beaten and gang raped and then then thrown off a moving bus in Delhi, India on Dec.16, 2012.  The rape resulted in her death in a Singapore hospital on Dec. 29th, 2012.

Her name is Jyoti Singh Pandey and her grieving father, Badri Singh, wants the world to know her name.

Her name is Jyoti Singh Pandey

What happened to Jyoti Singh Pandey is beyond horrific and she is not alone.    Every day, women all over the world are being raped, and still the world's legal systems, authorities and media are advocating the old adage of "don't get raped" and continuing with their failed policies of victim blaming instead of spreading awareness and teaching "DON'T RAPE".

I can not even imagine the unbearable pain and suffering Badri & Asha Singh are going through right now and my heart and prayers go out to them.  As a parent of three wonderful and beautiful daughters, this rape culture is frightening to think about.  I don't know what I would do if any of my daughters were ever raped, and pray that it never happens, but I do know that I would probably not be as strong as Badri Singh, because I would probably end up killing my daughter's rapist if it ever happened.   Badri Singh, during an interview with media said  “We want the world to know her real name.....", “My daughter didn’t do anything wrong, she died while protecting herself.", “I am proud of her. Revealing her name will give courage to other women who have survived these attacks. They will find strength from my daughter.”

Because I am a parent, I know all too well how much Badri & Asha love their daughter and I am sorry for their tragic loss, because it is so heart breaking.   Reading various articles on the tragic rape of Jyoti Singh Pandey, I ended up reading various other recent rape cases and I am sickened over the world's rape culture with victim blaming.  Our daughters, our mothers, our sisters, our wives, our girlfriends, our friends, even our grandmothers, are all at risk of being raped on any given day within their lifetime and as a society, as people, we need to do whatever it takes to end this cycle of sexual violence.

Although rape is predominately committed against girls and women, boys and men are also raped, although not as frequently, nevertheless, something needs to be done to end rape.  It is UNACCEPTABLE that any woman, man or child should EVER suffer the extreme violation of rape.

It is sickening and disgusting to see when countries such as Swaziland enact laws blaming the victim instead of passing legislation for harsher penalties for rapists.  Just a couple weeks ago the Swaziland government banned mini skirts, revealing tops and low rise jeans, stating that they provoke rape, and women face arrest if breaking this law.  This is sickening and is just one of many cases of victim blaming.   I don't know about you, but I love mini skirts and seeing beautiful women in a mini skirt, or in any other revealing clothing for that matter, has not once EVER caused me to rape.   Not once, EVER, have I been provoked into committing the heinous and despicable, inhumane crime of rape.    As a transsexual woman, I also love to wear mini skirts, because I think they're cute and I just love the style and look, etc, and I'm fortunate that it's not ever provoked anyone into raping me, however, I am also aware of the risk, among various other risks, therefore I carry a concealed handgun and will not hesitate in putting a bullet between the eyes of anyone attempting to commit any crime of violence against me.

Speaking of carrying guns for self protection, as a result of Jyoti Singh Pandey's rape, and India's history of having a rape epidemic, thousands of women across India have sought out licenses and the means to legally own, possess and carry a firearm for self protection.    As a diehard, pro second amendment, pro gun libertarian, I wholeheartedly encourage and advocate for concealed carry for self protection, and am all to well aware of the fact that women carrying guns do not get raped, because rapists want unarmed, defenseless victims.  A gun pointed at, even shooting a rapist, is a rapist's biggest disappointment.  No wonder former President Bill Clinton approves of anti gun legislation and further unnecessary restrictions on lawful gun ownership.   I'm aware that advocating concealed carry as means of not getting raped is an oxymoron to "don't rape", however, I still encourage people to do so, because carrying a gun for self protection is a good idea for stopping crime and violence in general.

There's just far too many rape incidents currently circulating in the world's various media formats to cover everything, including the cycle of victim blaming, but, it needs to change, and my own opinion is that we, as people, from all over the world, need to send the message, "DON'T RAPE", and we must pass legislation to make the punishment nothing less than DEATH.

I fully support the death penalty for the crime of rape and sexual violence, as well as death for crimes of sexual assault against children.  What do you think?  Should rapists get the death penalty?  Leave a comment below.
